Cereal: What to BUY/EAT and What to AVOID

Don’t be fooled….. most cereals aren’t that greaaaaat.

I’m sure you love the convenience of grabbing a box of your favorite cereal and pouring it in a bowl topped with some cold milk. Unfortunately most cereals out there are LOADED with sugar and have no nutritional value whatsoever. Don’t fret my friend. I’m here to help you make better choices.

When making your cereal selection and taking a look at the nutritional acts and ingredients, follow these guidelines…..

1. < 10 grams of total sugar
2. > 3 gram of protein
3. > 3 gram of fiber
4. NO BHT in ingredients (harmful preservatives)
5. WHOLE grains/ oats in the ingredients

Note these are all based on 1 cup as a serving. Don’t be tricked by some companies who will put 1 1/4 cup in order to make it seem it has high amounts of healthier ingredients.

If you have a particular sweet, sweet tooth or you find some of the healthier cereals bland, I recommend adding fresh fruit or a sweetener such a monk fruit. And don’t worry as always, I threw in a recommendation for my gluten-free friends out there!
